Beach time almost always equals sunburn, right? Not this time!

My family and I enjoyed 3 gorgeous days at the Isle of Palms in South Carolina.  I have 4 little ones, 3 sunburn, one always has a gorgeous tan.  Naturally, we loaded up on sunscreen when we packed.  My youngest, Avery 3 years old, is a HUGE Baby Shark fan.  When I discovered Babience Baby Shark Sunscreen,  I knew I had to get it for my little guy.  As soon as he opened the package, he had to put it on!

Make a Difference in Your Community.

Are you interested in making a difference in your community but don’t know where to start? I can help!  I’ve had the pleasure of running several successful fundraisers for organizations in my community.  Before I share my tips on running a fundraiser, let me tell you about one of my largest fundraisers.

I raised $4000 for Safe Harbor, a Domestic Violence Shelter for Woman and Children to purchase stuffed animals for the children in the shelter.  My daughter and I wanted each child to have something of their own to bring comfort.  These children often fled their homes with their mother to the safety of Safe Harbor’s shelters with nothing but the clothes on their back.  I knew I wanted to make a difference for these children.   I contacted Safe Harbor through email asking if this would be beneficial for their shelters, I quickly got back YES! I decided I would accept donations from October through December via PayPal, Venmo, Cash, Check, and a Facebook fundraiser.  It’s important to have many ways to collect payment. Next, I created a flyer with a picture of Finely the Fox, the stuffed animal we were raising funds for, the dates of the fundraiser, and how to pay.  I sent the flyer to Safe Harbor which they shared on their Facebook page.  I contacted local businesses to hang flyers up in their businesses. I also featured business owners and businesses on my Facebook Business Page if they chose to partner with me.  I shared stories (and my heart) daily on social media.  Raising funds was so important to me, I quit worrying about someone telling me no, and started asking everyone.  After all, we did this for the kids at Safe Harbor, not for us.  I wanted to bring even more awareness to our fundraiser, which led me to contact a local news station.  I never  actually thought they would read it, but they did! Before I knew it, my daughter and I were featured on the local news.  You can see our story here. Donations poured in and we made a difference in 161 children’s lives.

Now, let’s break it down into steps on how you can create your own successful fundraiser.

Find an organization that has meaning to you, something you feel strongly about.  When you are passionate about what you were doing, you’ll be more driven to work for it to make it happen.  Can’t think of a specific organization?  Think about what area you would like to make a difference in.  Is it a children’s shelter, domestic violence, school, sport, etc.  Once you narrow down the topic you would like to make a difference in, go to everyone’s friend, Google, and look up organizations in your area.  Do your research and pick the one that means the most to you.

Decide how you want to raise money.  Do you want to do a flyer fundraiser? Do you want to donate money, do you want to donate products? Weigh the options and decide what would work best for you.  If you make it too hard, you might not follow through.  If you are a direct seller like I am, chances are you have all of the resources you need to be successful.  I’ve had the opportunity to raise funds for a 5th grade field trip, stuffed animals for children in a domestic violence shelter, and I’m currently running a fundraiser for personal care packages for a woman’s shelter.  If you do not have a fundraiser contact, I’m your girl.  I’m a fundraiser specialist.

Get started! Set up your fundraiser with multiple ways to receive funds with a start date and end date.  The easiest way I’ve found is through Facebook Fundraiser.   You can share the what, when, and how through the Facebook Fundraiser and people can donate with a few clicks.  It is best to have multiple ways to collect money.  PayPal and Venmo are excellent options as well.

Get the word out!  Share your fundraiser on social media, through email, with flyers, send individual texts, stop by local businesses to see if you can hang up a flyer or see  if they would like to partner with you.  Don’t just post one post on social media.  Do it daily, make it personal.  Show your heart, people will see your heart, connect with the organization, and want to make a difference. DDDE95D9-1915-46DE-82F7-F41618135617

Remember your why, your reason for starting the fundraiser.  You might feel nervous to collect money or to ask people to contribute, but guess what?  The worst thing that can happen is they say “no”, the best “yes”.  Do it scared, don’t be afraid to work for this and make a difference. YOU can make a difference.  One person can make a change!

STOP Collaborate & Listen

If you started singing/rapping when you read the title, you are just as cool (or maybe as old) as I am!

We live in a world where women spend too much time seeing other woman as competition.  Jealousy is a big ugly green monster.  I’ve spent entirely too much time listening to that ugly green monster! I’m done! I’ve got a daughter that I want to be confident in her own skin and in her own ability.  A daughter who is watching me.

You don’t have to listen to that monster telling you that woman is better than you.  What if you saw her as a collaborator? What if you stopped focusing on what you don’t have that she does, and look at what YOU have to offer?  What if she has thought about what you have to offer that she doesn’t?  What if…. you worked together? What if you supported each other?

I am so grateful for the tribe of women I get to collaborate with in my company.  My entire company is women supporting women! We build each other up, work together, and combine our strengths.  In doing so we’ve made videos like this-

I’ve also had the pleasure of working  with other female entrepreneurs.  These women are not my competition, they are my collaborators.  They inspire me to do better.  Supporting other women in different companies, is one of my favorite things! Quarantine Curls

“Worry About Youself”

We’ve all seen the video of the toddler trying to buckle herself, her dad asks to help, and she says “worry about you self”.  Are you? Are you worrying about you self?  Or are you taking care of everyone but yourself? Now more than ever, we need to take care of ourselves! Take a little time to recharge.  Treat yourself to some self care!

What’s for dinner?

My kids just asked me the dreaded question.  “What’s for dinner?”.   Did you know these people except dinner every night? Every of the nights?  If you’re like me, you struggle at times coming up with new recipes.  Given the times, I gathered a few, inexpensive, easy to make recipes to share with you.  Hopefully these will help make your life a little easier!

Pour Man’s Veggie Soup from Anna Catron

 V8 (store brand)
Frozen Soup Veggies
Frozen Okra
Few Spices

Throw it all together and cook until warm.  Serve with grilled cheese or by itself.

Cheese Enchiladas  from Anna Catron

Enchilada Sauce
Cream of Mushroom
Tortillas
Shredded Cheese

Mix enchilada sauce and cream of mushroom.  Fill the tortillas with cheese and sauce mixture.  Bake 350 degrees for 15-20 min

Pork Chops with Potatoes from Rebecca Faulkner

Pork Chops
Cream of Mushroom 
Potatoes

Brown pork chops on both sides, cut potatoes in half place in skillet.  Pour cream of mushroom over chops and potatoes.  Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. 

Crockpot Potato Soup  from Emily Stephens

Bag of hash browns
Box of Chicken Stock
Cream of Chicken
Salt & Pepper 
Tsp Onion Powder
Cream Cheese

Combine all ingredients in crockpot, cook on low all day, 30 minutes before serving melt in a block of cream cheese.  Whisk until smooth. Serve with bread, salad, top with your choice of toppings, bacon, sour cream, cheese, spices.

Ranch Chicken Casserole from Whitney Cline

Ranch
1 Chicken Breast
Rotini Noodles
Shredded Cheese

Cook Rotini noodles according to the directions on the box.  Cut up chicken (I precook the chicken) combine desired amount of ranch, chicken, and noodles in a casserole dish.  Top with shredded cheese, 375 degrees 15 min. 

Pasta Sauce with Noodles  from Olga Romero

Pasta of your choice
Ground Turkey (or beef your preference)
Onion
Garlic Powder
2 jars of pasta sauce
Can of diced tomatoes

Saute Onion, add ground turkey cook until no longer pink.  Add pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, and garlic powder, cover with lid, lower the heat, simmer for 10 minutes.  Pair with your favorite pasta. 

Cheesy Hash brown Casserole  from Rosemary Cline

Frozen bag shredded hash browns defrosted
Brick of Cream Cheese
Cup of Mayo
Can of Cheddar Cheese Soup
16 oz shredded cheese
Tbsp of mustard
1 egg
Ground meat of your choice
Chili Powder
Minced Garlic
Onion Powder

Brown meat, season with minced garlic, chili powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, salt and pepper to taste.  In a large bowl mix cream cheese, mayo, mustard, soup, and egg until well blended, add hash browns, meat, and half bag of cheese.  Pour mixture into a greased dish, top with remaining cheese.  Cook 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. 

Apple sauce from Whitney Cline

8 apples
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups water
TSP cinnamon

Peel, core, dice apples, place in pot on stove, add all ingredients to the pan.  Simmer 20-30 minutes.  Mash, enjoy warm or cold.

Chicken Spaghetti from Whitney Cline

8 oz cream cheese
Cream of Chicken
8 oz spaghetti cooked
Chicken Breast cooked
Shredded Cheese
Garlic Powder
Red Pepper Flakes

Combine all ingredients cook 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Taco Pasta from Whitney Cline

Ground meat (turkey or beef)
Jar of your favorite salsa
Farfalle pasta
Can of Corn
Taco seasoning
Shredded cheese

Brown meat, add in salsa, corn, and taco seasoning.  Cook pasta according to the directions on the box.  Fold in the noodles to the meat mixture, top with shredded cheese.  Enjoy.

What CAN you do?

Let’s face it, no one really knows what’s going on or what to do right now.  Instead of focusing on what we CAN’T do, focus on what you CAN do.  There are so many ways you can help your community!  You can shop with small businesses who are relying on your sales ( like with me here), you can also look for ways to help your community.  I’m not able to help financially as much as I would like to BUT I CAN fundraise.

Fundraising is my passion!  My daughter and I spent October-December harassing everyone we’ve ever met in an effort to provide stuffed animals for the children at our local shelter for survivors of domestic violence.  We hoped to provide 65.  We ended up donating 162 stuffed animals with the help of our community.  162 children will receive a stuffed animal, a little bit of comfort in their upside down world.   We are currently running a fundraiser for Healthcare Heroes.  (You can find more info here) 

What can you focus on? What organization in your area could use your help?  We get through things like this by sticking together, so what CAN you do??

It’s Fine, I’m Fine, Everything is Fine.

Do you say “I’m fine” when someone asks how you are doing?  Are you fine? Why not say “struggling a bit today” or “I’m great! I’ve had an amazing day!”?  Why do we feel the need to tell everyone we are fine?  Are we pretending to be ok when we aren’t?  Why?  Will we feel judged if we share our real feelings?  These are questions I’ve been asking myself today.  I’m an overthinker.  This whole Coronavirus turns us overthinkers a tad crazy.  Let me just tell you about my trip to the grocery store.

If you read my previous blog, you know I struggle from anxiety.  I was a bit on edge going out anyway with all of the crazy people.  I get to the door of the grocery store and a lady is yelling at another lady for not giving someone else her cart.  Anxiety goes up a little.  I go in, start my shopping (without a list because who knew what would actually be in the store), and it happens.  My face itched, I (GASP) touched my face to scratch.  Do you have any idea how hard it is not to touch your face?? I kept doing it.  My overthinking brain was self diagnosing and my throat started to itch.  By the time I got to check out, my heart was racing.  Am I being ridiculous? Ummm yeah 100% but my body doesn’t know that.  I’m having a purely physical reaction to my overthinking.  The cashier asks how I’m doing, I say “I’m fine”.  As I start walking to the van, it’s getting harder to breathe and I know my crazy butt is getting close to a panic attack.  I got in the van, messaged my tribe how ridiculous I was being, and took a deep breath.

I’ve learned that you can bring yourself out of those anxiety filled moments by focusing on the real.  Count, take a deep breath, reach out to a friend, look around you.  Look for something you can touch, feel, smell, see.  Ground yourself.  You can pull yourself out of it, just like your body tried to pull you in it.

Sharing things like this (especially in a public blog) can be extremely scary.  I’m being my most vulnerable self.  Why can’t we all share how we really are?  Why do we pretend to be fine?

Will people walk away if they know who we really are?  Truthfully, yes some will.  The one’s who see your heart and truly care about you won’t.  “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter, don’t mind”. I struggle, we all do.  If we were all a bit more honest, maybe people wouldn’t feel so alone in their struggles.
